Aqsa Living Furniture Design Competition 2009

Background

Established in 1999, AQSA International formerly known as Indonesia Antique or Indo Antique. It has grown into a well-established manufacturer and exporter company with in-depth knowledge of indoor wooden furniture. On its development Indonesia Antique enlarge the scope of business into group of companies under the name of ‘AQSA International’ which is divided into Group of AQSA Living. AQSA Living includes Indonesia Antique, Aquila, and Qabana.
AQSA Living is aware that furniture is essential in our daily lives. At the same time, it represents lifestyles. Thus, AQSA Living believe, furniture should be well-designed and equipped to deal with the growing needs of consumers.

The final goal for this competition is not only for the purpose of being winning a prize but also to introduce fresh ideas in terms of design into the furniture industry. AQSA Living strongly believe that designs must keep up with the changing society and environment and should express new relationships between human beings and their lives, between human beings and furniture as well as between human beings and the environment. We are certain that designs should contribute to the creation of a better life and society.

We are looking forward to see your inspirational designs which will enable us to realize our dream.

Rules and Condition

Theme :
The competition will be set up in 2 different categories:

1. Any kind of living furniture in set (bedroom, living room, dining room, bathroom)
* Bedroom set, items consist of : headboard, bedside/night stand, chest, wardrobe, trunk, dresser
* Living room set, items consist of : bookcase, TV table, glass cabinet, coffee table, sofa, console table
* Dining room set, items consist of : dining table, dining chair, wine rack
* Bathroom set, items consist of : hanging shelf, towel rack, basin holder, mirror

Participants for this category have to design minimum 3 items each sets, as well as they are allowed to design more than 1 set.
2. Individual / Single furniture
* Coffee table
* Nest table
* Stool
* Table base in knock down system
* Day bed
* Lamp table

Participants for this category are allowed to design more than 1 single/individual item.

The furniture designs submitted must be newly created and previously unpublished. “Unpublished” means that the work has never appeared on the market as a product, has never appeared in any newspaper, magazine, or exhibition, and has never been a winner in other competition before the sponsor announces the results of the main selection process. A work which has appeared in students’ exhibitions is considered unpublished.

Materials of Furniture

1. Main material: wood and any kind of veneer
2. Secondary material: rattan, bamboo, glass, cast iron, leather, etc
Secondary material by mean as an accent and or decoration to combine with main material.

Qualification
Any individual, group or business will be eligible.

Number of entries
No limit is set on the number of entries from any applicant.

Registration fee
No registration fee required for this competition

Copyrights, patents right and industrial properties
All designs/pictures/CD and other hard or softcopy material received by Aqsaliving related to this competition will be treated as property of AqsaLiving company.

Application Method
General requirements:

1. Registration form are available at www.aqsaliving.com
2. Participants should submit the designs in 3 different views (left side, right side and front side).
3. Participants are allowed to send both 3D pictures and/or hand sketch.

Special requirement:
All participants have to send the designs both in softcopy and hardcopy file with detail requirements as follow:

Hard copy :

1. Fill in the application form and send it together with color photos (90mm�~130mm) of the work.
2. Please number the photos on their back side in the order that you wish your photos to be arranged in the preliminary selection process and also provide an arrow on the back to show the upper side of the photo.
3. Prints or photos of the actual work or the prototype, and then computer graphic will be considered.
4. The applicant is prohibited to use any letters or signs which indicate the identity of the applicant on the front side of photos.
5. The photos or print materials of applicants will not be sent back.

Soft copy :

* Format only JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) file is acceptable.
* Maximum capacity of the file data is until 300Kbyte/per file.
* Size maximum size of the graphics is height 800 x width 600(pixels).
* If the graphical size is extremely small, AQSA Living might expand the graphical data on purpose as matter of convenience for judges.
* Please provide us suitable size preferably.

The selection process will be carried out by AQSA Living selected judges:

1. Mr. Joshua Simandjuntak (furniture designer – Jakarta)
2. Mr. Agus Sunaryo (Funiture specialist – Semarang)
3. Mr. Ulung Wicaksono (Professional Photographer – Bali)
4. Mr. Drs. Soepono Sasongko MSn (Lecturer of Interior Design UNS – Solo)

Award Selection

1. Preliminary selection process
* Date: 15 May 2009 [UPDATE]
* Ten works will be chosen by AQSA Living Team to proceed to the next stage on the basis of the submitted photos and the product outline given in the application.
2. Main selection process
* Date: end- May, 2009
* Judge will examine the 10 actual works sent to AQSA Living and the judge will choose five winners from these.
* All the 10 applicants will be notified of the results of the main selection process by letter or e-mail by 11 June 2009
3. No explanation of the results will be provided.
4. Awards
For set designs :
* Gold Prize : USD 4.000,00
* Silver Prize : USD 3.000,00
* Bronze Prize : USD 2.000,00

For single/individual designs:
* Diamond Prize : USD 2.500,00
* Pearl Prize : USD 1.500,00

Note: tax is included in the awards.
5. Presentation of Finalists’ works
A special presentation of each piece that reaches the Final will be made by AQSA Living.

Others

1. Disqualification
Entry works that violate the following conditions shall be disqualified. If a violation is discovered after the selection process, the applicant will lose all rights to the competition.
* The entry must not violate the application qualification rules.
* The entry must not have the same or a very similar design to any work announced to the public before. The entry must not violate copyrights, patents and other related rights of other registered products.
